I am using a Trans Act feed which has an adequate but limited historical database. Sierra on the other hand offers an extensive historical database gratis. So what I would like to do is use your historical data as back fill and then let Trans Act update in realtime and on a continual basis. Is this possible, and if so could you point me to the help file that explains how this is done? I have looked but can't seem to find anything unless I am missing the obvious.

This is not supported. The assumption is that you are getting your data from one source. You can have multiple Sierra Chart installations and have one connected to your TransAct data and the other connected to Sierra Chart and have the historical data in the Sierra Chart installation.
