I've setup trade alerts and emails.

on global settings, alerts/general, I defined alerts and emails for order fills, stops and targets.

General Trade Settings / Notifications:
play alert when order filled,
play alert when target filled,
play alert when stop filled.
trade order alert trade accounts filter is empty

These were working fine for SIM accounts AND Live trading yesterday. I then upgraded to version 2231, ran a backtest and muted all sounds.

Once finished, I unchecked mute all alert sounds in global settings

Now Alert Manager now does not show any trading/order events nor I get the alerts or emails.

PS: Windows sounds are enabled other chart alerts work fine.

There isn't any reason why you should be having any issues.

You need to start with a simple test and go from there. For instance, in Sim mode, place a market order and verify that you get the Alert in the Alert log. Then move forward through each item to make sure each is working.

Be sure to check the settings for your the notifications and the alerts themselves if you have a problem. If you can't figure out what is happening, let us know.

I have found that exiting SC and then launching the application again restores the alerts; pretty un-elegant, though...

This is not technically possible at least in regards to not getting the messages:
Once finished, I unchecked mute all alert sounds in global settings

Now Alert Manager now does not show any trading/order events nor I get the alerts or emails.

There is no functionality to prevent alert messages from being added to the Alerts Log. There must be some other explanation for the issue in your case.
