ZigZag study cheats

I've found that the ZigZag study cheats - it has periods (apparently based on the "Number of Bars Required for Reversal" parameter where it does not draw the line with the bar, while waiting for the direction to continue or change, but rather it goes back afterward an redraws the line (and updates the data (visible in a spread sheet).
This is rather a nasty trick! Especially if one is trying to use ZigZag with an auto trade spread sheet.
One can verify this by setting up a Color Bar Based on Alert study and setting the Alert to "=idnn.sg1=0" where nn is your zigzag study.
Suggest Sierra include this info in the ZigZag documentation.

It will help if you can post an image of the scenario you describe. Also provide the input settings for the study.

I have a strong feeling I know the circumstance your describing.

The behavior is what we would expect based on the settings and how that study works. It makes complete sense that the Zig-Zag study values at historical bars may change as the last bar changes and new bars are added to the chart. This is the nature of the study. We could comment on this in the documentation but it should be obvious.

Enclosed are two pics. Note the Yellow bar in the lower pane is generated from the Color Bar Alert study when ZigZag = 0. Note that there is no ZigZag continuation of the Blue up trend line and no drawing of a downtrend line.
I now understand the features (LOL) of ZigZag after spending much time trying to use it as the basis for an auto trading spread sheet.
My suggestion is that this no paint / Zero condition should be added to the documentation and that ZigZag goes back and fills in (repaints) the lines after the actual bars. It would have saved me (and I would guess many others) many hours trying to make my code work.

BTW, if you could come up with a way to make ZigZag work as an auto trader spreadsheet, this would be great.
Thanks

Hi Support is it possible to adjust Zig Zag indicator on 5 min or 1 min to catch the smaller turns. Its does it on Meta Trader4.

You'll need to change the reversal value to achieve that.

Hi gdm1972 thanks for your reply, had look in settings and it mentions a few reversals.

1st one is Reversal% for calc mode 1
2nd Reversal amount for calc mode 2,3 0.01
3rd Numbers of bars for reversal 5

Any ideas which one I change, and by how much for a 5 min or 1min chart.

That will depend on what method of reversal you're using. If it's a price amount its number 2. The amount is purely down to you. I use 0.75 on the ES
