Hi,

How does sierra chart calculate a custom symbol.

Lets start with a basic one.

CLz20+CLF21

simple plus plus
lets say clz20 at 40 dollars with volume at this instant of calculation of 500 and clf21 is at 41 dollars with volume at clc of 250

i would think we would take 40 + 41= 81 correct?
if we also added the volume indicator would it not be 500 + 250 = 750?
so the clz20+clf21= 81 price with 750 volume?

I cannot reproduce these numbers in sierra with the correct additive volume. i can manually look at clz20 vol and clf21 vol
and clearly see that sierra chart is not properly calculating this volume. if one symbol doesnt trade that wouldnt change anything
because we are adding anything plus zero is just that previous number

in this scenario would using the difference study be a better choice than a custom symbol since it is adding? versus a custom symbol when subtracting.

I also understand that when subtracting these sierra is trying to only "PRINT or CHART" overlapping or same time interval prints or clsoe to it?
there are times if i look at volume in my 2 symbol custom studies that i actually get constant volume bars in my volume indicator
which i am unsure of what it is calculating.

Can you help me out and let me know EXACTLY how sierra chart calculates plus and - functions for custom charts includigng the volume?

the Differencing indicator is ok but obviously the bars are not very accurate and that is why i am using the custom symbols because i was under the assumption
sierra chart used microsecond time stamping for these values and double checked to make sure that this printed price for the custom symbol is with the realm of
being real. thank you very much.

really enjoy using sierra chart

Lastly,
if i do a custom study of say CLZ20 - clf21 what is the volume number being shown to me? as a guess is it the volume that relatively traded at that point in time to the micro second or to my time chart? thanks as you can see I am mixed up and it is not quite as easy to understand how thigns are being computed in sierra chart but for the studies I am running at this time i need to understand exactly how the data is being calculated in sierra. thank you very much

i can simpligy this evern more with say
2*{clz20_fut_nymex} and this should prit double the voluem correct?

so if the volume in 5 miutes in clz20 was 3000 then 2* (clz20 (volume) would be

2*(3000) = 6000 for that bar is this correct? if so why wont sierra chart show this to me on my
charts

thank you

another question off of this one would be is it possible to have a custom symbol that would keep the actual volume the same no matter what the multiplier.

so we would have a relative volume and an actual volume?

so i could say do a 5*{clz20_fut_nymex} and my output for the volume would stay
the same as the original and actual 1*{clz20_fut_nymex}

thanks so if volume in 5 mins was 3000 contracts and the price was 40
then my 5*{clz20_fut_nymex} would display

200 price and still 3000 as volume? yes i culd just take volume and divide it by my multiplier of 5 and get my original volume
but i cannot get sierra chart to show 200 price and 3000x5 = 15,000 volume.

i am also trying to keep charts open and data down to a minimum so. opening a clz20 chart and overlaying the volume onto my custom symbol seems
like another entire chart and data that needs to be downloaded and calculated in order toget what i want from a custom symbol to not have to do this thanks.

before i start asking for stuff i think i need to understand how the volume is handled in custom studies. thanks.

thanks again
