hi guys

I notice SC has the Gann Hi/Lo Activator, but would it be possible to add the other 2 parts of the Gann strategy to Sierra?

These two studies will not be difficult to implement. I have Krausz' book in which he develops them. I will get to work on them today.

I just wanted to give you an update. I have been researching this via Krausz' book (attached as a .pdf file).

These two studies are proving to be more problematic than I had anticipated.

First, with regard to the Gann Swing Oscillator (GSO), the link in Post #1 gives the following conditions for an Up Swing, and hence a value of GSO = 1.

* H[-1] > H[-2]
* H > H[-1]

It further gives the following conditions for a Down Swing, and hence a value of GSO = -1.

* L[-1] < L[-2]
* L < L[-1]

Here is the problem: there is no reason that both sets of conditions cannot be satisfied for the same triplet of bars. Krausz' book is thus far of no help in clarifying this, because it gives the same conditions on page 12.

Second, with regard to the Gann Trend Oscillator (GTO), the link in Post #1 does not state the conditions for Up Trends and Down Trends. Krausz is once again of no help, as he presents "definitions" of these concepts on page 14 of his book that are circular; an Up Trend is defined in terms of a Down Trend, and a Down Trend is defined in terms of an Up Trend.

The development of these indicators will have to wait until I can get to the bottom of these issues. If anyone here who is more familiar with these indicators than I am can shed some light on this, it would be appreciated.

Those conditions should not be met at the same time. Maybe it will help you:

Here is the Gann Trend Oscillator (GTO) as I understand it.

* I defined an Uptrend as 2 or more bars in which the High and Low are both increasing, in which case GTO = 1.
* I defined a Downtrend as 2 or more bars in which the High and Low are both decreasing, in which case GTO = -1.
* In any other case, GTO = 0.

I have attached both the code and a screenshot of the results. Please let me know if this study is what you expected.

I am still ironing out some bugs in the Gann Swing Oscillator.

Here is the Gann Swing Oscillator (GSO) as I understand it.

* I set GSO = 0 for the first 2 bars.
* I check for an Upswing followed by 2 higher Highs, and if this happens I set GSO = 1.
* I check for a Downswing followed by 2 lower Lows, and if this happens I set GSO = -1.
* If neither of the previous two conditions is satisfied, then I set GSO = GSO[1].

I have attached both the code and a screenshot of the results. Please let me know if this study performs as you expect.

I will submit both GSO and GTO (previous post) to Sierra Chart Engineering as soon as I have confirmation that the algorithms are correct.

Since there are no objections to Posts 7 and 8, I will submit these two studies to Sierra Chart Engineering today.

Thanks Tom

I don't know the maths enough behind it to tell you if it's right or not. I am just hoping to play around with it when the studies are available. In trading view I have the indicators and they work quite well on specific charts.

Thanks for your time and effort. I look forward to seeing them in a future release

WRT Post #11:

Hi Tom,

Any status including these studies in SC?

Thanks

The studies have been added to SC. Apologies for not announcing it.

The studies are documented here:
Gann Trend Oscillator
Gann Swing Oscillator

Also, we already had the Gann HiLo Activator, which is to be used with the above two studies.

It is documented here:
Gann HiLo Activator
