Most likely the chart is using Chart Linking to another chart and is using the option for Bar Spacing. Refer to the information here:
Chart Settings: Chart Linking (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Linking menu)

It is not using Chart Linking. It is only sharing drawings with another chart. In chart linking the link number selected is 'none' and there are no options checked.

This is not making sense then. So you decrease the bar spacing and then it changes back? In the lower right of the chart the bar spacing is indicated. What are you decreasing it to and then what is the changing back to? When does it change back?

Remove all studies from the chart. Maybe a custom study is changing the spacing. The other thing to do is to create a new Chartbook and open just one chart without studies and see if you have any problem there.
