Chart setting suggestion

Hello, is it possible to add a chart setting that limits the max amount of bars loaded, similar to "Use number of days to load"?

In many cases, your 1 tick charts are problematic, due to the added lag as the day goes on. It also makes studies like Number Bars unusable, as they eventually add 400+ms latency, even if they are the only study on a 1 day loaded chart. Technically you could create a manual version of Number bars to fix the issue, but adding a max bar option in chart settings would probably make things easier on you, in the long term.

No this is not something which is reasonable to implement.

But you could do it as a custom study. Once the chart gets to be so many bars, you could adjust the Session Times programmatically and reload the chart. But the chart does have to be reloaded. This is the only way the size can be decreased. Refer to:

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately reloading the chart periodically can be disastrous for day trading, especially if automated.

If I enter a trade and forget to reload for awhile, now my options are: deal with a lagged exit or risk blinding and locking myself out while the chart reloads. If it's automated, the lockout risks become even more unplanned, potentially blowing past stops, missing important moves, etc. A max bar limit would circumvent all of this and not only improve tick charts, but every study you apply to them. This is all ignoring the fact it's in your best interest to do so. When your Number Bars study has performance issues on tick charts, customers are less likely to upgrade their sierra chart accounts. This is in no way criticism, just a suggestion.

This is not going to change. This is very impractical and inefficient and would cause problems with study calculations. And what you are doing is very unusual to begin with. You should increase the time frame per bar to like maybe one or two seconds a bar.

You can run that chart on a sub instance which is not used for trading:
