Hi, is it possible to add a setting to the Volume study or Volume Colour Based on Price study to dictate how to treat bars that close even/level to the prior bar. For my purposes, I want volume to be coloured the same as the prior volume if the price bar closes at the same price. However, the 2 studies mentioned do not do this or allow the setting to be adjusted.

You need to develop your own custom study for this. Refer to:

This shouldn't be a difficult option to include and its a standard offering on most packages I've ever used.

Further, the Volume study is showing inconsistent behaviour and not colouring bars appropriately where there is a change in closing price up/down. This is evident in the chart attached. Using standard volume study with auto-colouring set at 'same as base graph'. Blue = up close, red = down close.

According to the study description...."Volume bars are color coded based upon whether the corresponding price bar is up or down. To choose the up and down colors, click on the Subgraphs tab in the Technical Study Settings window and set the Primary and Secondary colors for the first Subgraph."

What we find, is that the Volume study does generally work as you want in post #1 but there is a difference, with how it is determined to be an up or down bar.

We have updated the documentation to precisely explain how this works. Refer to:
Volume

There is no problem with how the study works. It works as documented.

Ok, so Close is compared to the Open price, not the prior Close as I understand. Why dont you add the functionality to compare to the prior close (which is relevant for a lot trading methodologies) and at the same time add the functionality of how to manage when closes are at the same price (ie based on the prior bar close OR just treat is as an up bar OR paint it a different colour altogether as this can be important information also). This is basic functionality.

We will add a new auto coloring method to support this.

Also the study you are looking for already exists but does not handle the case when the prices are the same:
Volume - Colored Based on Bar Closes

However, that will be supported with the new auto coloring method.
