I followed the directions under Tick By Tick Data Configuration. That is I set Intraday Data Storage Time Unit to 1 Tick and Download Historical Intraday Data As Ticks, then erased all data, restarted and reloaded. I tried stocks and futures and all I ever manage to get is minute bars stored in the scid file. I have no problem getting ticks with the SC data feed.

Can you suggest anything to try? Is there a setting in iqFeed itself that I need to set?

We have tested this and we do not see a problem.

Depending upon when the data was downloaded only the most recent 8 days will be Tick data and earlier days will be Minute data:

Right you are. I was looking at the front of the file and seeing the minute bars. The end of the file is seconds with incremental milliseconds as expected.

Once an scid file is written with minute bars will part of it ever get overwritten with the tick data or is it necessary to erase it and start over (at a better time of day)?

Thanks

You will have to re-download the data outside of the active market hours.
