Hi,

I just had a thought I figured I'd chip in as I know you guys are deep into the spreadsheet revamp.
It would be helpful from an organizational standpoint if there was something called..say "master sheets"
These would be organizationally independent of "chart sheets"

One big problem I've had is that I use sheets to control chart sheets...
Problems arise when adding new charts on top of this type of system.
I often have to open a dummy chart to fill that chart number void to avoid having to re-copy my master sheet.
This of course tends to jumble up my numbering system.

I suppose this wouldn't be an issue if the charts and sheets were completely randomly assignable and moveable.

But just from a logical perspective of a user, It should be impossible under any circumstance that chart data could feed a control sheet.

I've had this happen many times when duplicating a chart with a spreadsheet...This of course populates my control sheet with data...Or another sheet..

I think it solves a ton of problems to just treat the sheets as either "chart sheets" or "master sheets".
In this case chart sheets could always be locked to the same number. And charts and sheets could share the same assignable "name"

Just some thoughts..

Cheers!

I've used the standalone spreadsheets as 'master sheets'. This avoids having to use a dummy chart to hold open a sheet number. And it avoids overwriting a sheet when duplicating a chart that uses a Chart Data Output Sheet Number greater than 0.

Duplicating a chart with a spreadsheet study will retain the Chart Data Output Sheet Number and Formula Source Sheet Number options. If you don't realize this, you can create trouble for yourself.

Sheet numbers (tab positions) are currently completely assignable, using the Chart Data Output Sheet Number and Formula Source Sheet Number options.

What I struggle with are problems that arise when sharing a custom spreadsheet study:
1) You can save a Study Collection (with a '-' after the name) of the spreadsheet study and supporting studies, but if the user applies it to a chart number other than the one you used to create it, parameters in non-repeating cells will not follow to the new sheet, e.g. columns H and J.
2) If the user has existing spreadsheet studies on a chart, applying it with the study collection (with a '-' after the name) could overwrite sheet data on the existing spreadsheet.
3) Supporting studies used in a custom spreadsheet study, applied with a study collection (with a '-' after the name) to a chart with existing studies, will not be in output columns that the formulas expect. The user must either move the studies (in the correct order) to the top of the Studies to Graph list, or edit the formulas. The new ID#.SG# referencing does not solve this (it is a handy feature otherwise).

In regards to post #1 this is no longer an issue with New Spreadsheets. The master sheet can just be given its own custom name and it would never get used, at least by default, by the Spreadsheet studies.

3. Is this still a problem? It would not seem like it.
