why am I not able to use common symbols such as epz enqz. unable to find them in the search, comes up symbol does not exist. I have to use 20181200.cme_eq..does this have to do with the broker?

You must use the symbols that you see listed in File >> Find Symbol. Use those symbols and do not modify them.
