This is re: GTCs in backtest mode. Does this study work with GTCs? This customer uses GTCs in the spreadsheet system for trading with no issues:

Ok so I have the system up and running. When back testing, at the end of each day my stops and targets are cancelled. I have good till canceled selected for the orders. When I checked the trade service log it just said a general order error had occurred. Is there something I need to check in the study so my orders will remain open until hit?

Thanks

Make sure the Time in Force of Good till Canceled is set on the Attached Orders themselves:

Time in force Good till Canceled is set on the orders themselves. The study still closes all open orders at end of day.

Also,do you happen to know why the trade system based on alert conditions places orders based on previous bars and will never allow a flat position? For instance let's say the 3am 60 minute bar produces a signal. At 7am when I enable the study it will place a trade based on that 3am bar. It never allows you to be flat. I only want to open trades based on the current bars signals.

Thank You,
MJ

How is it set on the Targets tab of the Trade Window?

In response to post #4, for the reasons why we cannot help with this, refer to:
Automated Trading Management: Troubleshooting Automated Trading System Behavior

Also by setting Order Action on Alert to one of the Exit actions, it will certainly flatten the Position. And although you may see a signal visually from the study on a past bar at the time you enable the study, that will not generate a current order for that bar. Only the most recent bar or bars added during an update would do that.

It is set to good till canceled on the targets tab of the trade window. I have four trade system based on alert conditions on my chart. Two of them are for long and short entries and two for exits. When the exit strategy closes a position, a new order is immediately placed by the entry strategy even though there is no new signal. It will not allow me to stay in a flat position. Example: buy signal is generated, order is placed. time goes by and buy exit signal is generated, position is closed. Immediately following the close of the position, new buy order is placed even though there is no current buy signal being generated.

Okay in that case, then check the Trade Activity Log and find out the exact reason an order is getting canceled when it is. Refer to:
Trade Activity Log: Viewing Historical Trade Activity

Also refer to:
Basic Trading and the Trade Window: Trade Window Settings Not Applying to Chart or Trading DOM

Try setting Maximum Long Trades Per Day and Maximum Short Trades Per Day both to 1 with the Trading System Based on Alert Condition study.

Also this cannot be the case:

Immediately following the close of the position, new buy order is placed even though there is no current buy signal being generated.
Clearly the formula you are using is becoming true.

Thank you for the reply. I have gone back to using the spreadsheet system for trading.
