In my experience (especially in ES_F), the opening range is one of the most important intraday measurements.

Currently, to my knowledge, you can only use High/Low for time period to specify the opening range.

Many traders don't use time for this.

It would be useful to have a native Opening Range Study that allows for users to specify the range based on bar type along with time.

Goal would be to plot lines for the opening range using the high/low of only the first bar of the session and then be able to set the session start time.

I am using a user created study for this but it does not work on the 64 bit version as far as I can tell.

You can do this currently. Use the Horizontal Line at Time study for this:
Horizontal Line at Time

Use two instances of this study. One for the high and one for the low.

Thanks but the point of the post was to be able to use something other than time.

For instance, I want to use the high and low of the first 10k tick bar. Not a start time and end time.

But that bar has to be identified by its time. There is no way a study can know the first bar of the trading day other than by comparing its time to what is the start of the trading day according to the Session Times.

Also the Horizontal Line at Time study does not use an end time.

Ideally, an Opening Range Study would allow you to:

1. Specify Session Start Time
2. Specify calculation by Bars or Time (like many other studies available)
3. Allow you to input the total number of bars after the Session Start Time to use - OR -
4. Allow you to input the start time and end time if Time was used to determine opening range

This way, you could use any bar type/duration to specify opening range, correct?

Something like this would be very useful as a native study.

You really need to program this yourself or hire a programmer. We will not get involved in this.

I believe you could customize the Initial balance study to reflect the particular settings you're looking for
