My goal is to trade both equities and futures. Therefore, it appears TD Ameritrade is the problem and solution is most likely a new broker. IB supports both equities and futures trading but due to their very unprofessional behavior I'm not at all interested in doing business with them. I have searched for a broker that provides support for both equities and futures for a long time but I have been unsuccessful. I'm open any suggestions to solve this problem and any help that you could offer would be deeply appreciated.

Do you have personal experience with IB that you’re basing your opinion of being unprofessional on? I was with them for many years and never experienced anything “unprofessional”. Their customer support used to be lacking compared to brokers like TD Ameritrade but that’s improved over the past several years also.

I understand that some people have had issues trading via SC with them at times but others have used SC with them for years very successfully. I’m not advocating for or against IB if you’ve had a bad experience with them. If you’re basing your opinion of them on hearsay though you may want to reevaluate you’re opinion.

My opinion is solely based on my personal experience with IB. I talked with IB about opening an account and explained up front that I would need answers to a few questions that was important to me. The questions were about the data, platform setup, available external platforms, and movement of IRAs. IB approved my account and ask me to fund it. I told them that I would be happy to fund the account when they answered all of my questions. To make a long story short as time pass by and we reached a stalemate or deadlock. IB never tried or was unable to answer my questions and I never did fund the account. I provided IB with all the information that they ask for and I expect the same from anyone that I'm doing business with. My opinion of IB is that they are unprofessional and don't plan to reevaluate it.

Xfanman, I respect your opinion and hope that you don't take my response personal.

No problem on my end Thomas. If you've had a bad experience with them you have every right to choose as you did. I was just sharing my personal experience in case you had heard or read something online that may have led you to that decision but didn't have first hand knowledge.

Unfortunately I'm not sure there's another broker that can offer you both Futures and Equities like IB can that's supported for use with SC. You may be stuck having to use 2 brokers, one for stocks (TDA) and another for futures. Hopefully someone else will chime in and prove me wrong ;^)

Hi,

Unfortunately sometimes our opinion of an establishment boils down to one
idiot that we dealt with. I do my best not to let someone have that power over
me. Not saying that you did though.

I have been with IB for years and never had a problem. Truth be told
how much do you deal with them? I do not remember the last time I
needed them.

The security of their size and the ability to deal with IRA's for
no fees, debit card, once a month free wires, etc. outweighs the little dealing you do with them.

Call and ask to speak to a manager. Believe me the ones who care want your
business.

Hello Traders,

Well to took your advice and tried to open an IB account. I spent most of the day talking with them via the telephone and email. The final call was around 6:30PM and the call had a strange sound to me and I ask if this call was being recorded. The answer was YES, we record all telephone calls. I must say that I wasn't a very happy Camper and the rest is history.

It appears that I have been BLACK-BALLED by IB. Within a few minutes of the end of the telephone call I received and email with the following contents.

APPLICATION REJECTION NOTICE
----------------------------
We are sorry to inform you that your application to open the INDIVIDUAL account, Account ID: U2172558 cannot be accepted at this time.

I'm thinking that this is not legal!
