I did a lot of searching but could not find an answer for this problem.

I have 3 monitors. I use about 5 charts and usually 2 chart books.

I can detach a chart and drop it on a virutal desktop and then easily switch back and forth for additional real-estate. GREAT!

Here's the problem, when I switch chart books and back again, it will bring whatever chart was on the virutal desktop (say 2 or 3) back to 1. Meaning, I now have 3 charts on the desktop that used to have 2 and to overly clarify - this means the chart is not on the virtual desktop anymore.

It does not matter if the chart is full screen, or sized to be just inside the boundaries of the window.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS? I don't want more monitors! :)

I've been thinking about your problem.

Clearly the problem arises when you switch chartbooks.
When you're opening a chartbook, Sierra will always open all charts for that chartbook on the current virtual desktop.
Sierra is not virtual-desktop-aware.

I'm wondering if you can avoid the problem by combining all 5 of your charts into a single chartbook?
If so, then you would never have to switch chartbooks during the day.
So you could move each chart into the desktop you want it to be in, and then it would stay put when you switch desktops - I think. (I haven't tested this.)

If the chartbooks really need to be separate, then the other possible solution that occurs to me would be to set up a second instance of Sierra, and run the second chartbook in its own separate instance.
This would also give you a way to keep both chartbooks open at the same time, with each chart on its desired virtual desktop.

I'm not sure, since I don't know all the details of what you're trying to accomplish.
But I think some combination of these approaches may solve your problem.

I've solved this dilemma.

Open multiple instances, put each instance on a virtual desktop. BAM. It not only switches faster, but you never have to adjust your windows. My computer is plenty fast enough to do this, so that works for me. One beautiful thing I might do is have another instance where all I'm looking at is my entries chart for all the securities, then I just switch to the desktop that has that one to do as deeper inspection....time will tell.
