Crypto Currency Development Plans

Support Request:
[2017-11-26 22:56:42]
Sierra Chart Engineering - Posts: 65096
Regarding the crypto currency markets, we have many requests, to add data feeds and trading support for the different exchanges, and improve integration to the existing data feeds we have. Sierra Chart does currently support many crypto currency data feeds but we do need to improve the integration to them and add trading support

We are currently working on all of this.

Trading is currently supported through BitMEX:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/BitMEX_Trading.php

We are working on direct trading integration to BitMEX instead of through the current Intermediary software layer which exists.

We are also working on improving the data feed to Bitfinex.

We are expanding our the number of developers in order to support this so it does not affect our current ongoing development of Sierra Chart.

While we do not want to go into a lot of details, and we only have at this time general concepts, we are also looking to develop complete trading and platform technology for crypto currency markets.

Recent report about Bitcoin price:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-11-26/bitcoin-soars-above-9000-hits-new-all-time-high-burst-asian-buying

From our perspective, fundamentally Bitcoin does not really make any sense because it is grossly inefficient. We believe a crypto currency needs to have some form of asset backing and be efficient. It does not mean that we are against Bitcoin but ultimately it is going to fail and something more sensible is going to replace it.

There are some very good articles about the power consumption to process a single Bitcoin transaction, and the amount of energy needed to mine an ounce of gold. Why gold is not at 10,000 USD an ounce at this time, is simply due to price suppression:

Whether or not bitcoin fails in not relevant. They are tremedous swings in value of cryptos so they offer good money making opportunities.

There are 1300+ different cryptos some are going up and down big every day. Couple links to show the markets https://www.worldcoinindex.com/exchange Binance exchange has grown big quickly on offering lesser knows cryptos. https://coinmarketcap.com/

Ripple XRP has had a huge increase in market cap in a short time. Evidently Ripple has been adopted by a lot of banks. https://ripple.com/company/ Some of these will succeed most are completely overvalued and many are scams. Really interesting at any rate.

Hello,

I have now spent 3 years in the crypto sphere.

In my humble opinion, there are 3 must-have exchanges you should support for trading and charting :
1) Bitfinex
2) Binance, most popular booming alt exchange lately, they have stopped taking new registrations as of today but will resume
3) Cryptopia.co.nz, which offers the largest coverage of small and mid sized coins, 1000+ in total, also very popular

This feedback is important.

And we do appreciate that.

1. This will be done.

2. We will have to see about this. Certainly market data we can do.

3. We will see.

Ultimately though, we see that there needs to be a standardized communication protocol for market data and trading. This is the DTC Protocol and this will make integration automatic.

In addition we see that there needs to be a decentralized model for efficient trading and the exchange of value and to bring these other exchanges into this model in order to expand participation and to create liquidity. And it is essential to have standardized protocols for this participation. We do believe a decentralized model can work well, and be trusted and be very efficient.

And ultimately we see this model as being the model for trading shares/stocks and futures as well. Futures contracts can be implemented as smart contracts on the network.

With this vision, no longer will there be the dominant centralized exchanges and their detrimental market data policies but a truly open and efficient network for trading.

Actually Binance is now reported to be the largest exchange in the world.
You can monitor the importance and evolution of the most traded exchanges here before considering to integrate them
https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/
I may add that Bittrex should also be considered. In my opinion, with those 4 exchanges covered you could attract most crypto enthusiasts.

Agreed that right now, the APIs are very uneven and often of arguable quality. There is more than room for improvement and standardization. Because the growth of this sector is very free but also very anarchic.

Ultimately a new breed of decentralized exchanges is already coming. They are challenging to manipulate at first for the user especially in terms of security responsabilities but they respect the core vision of the ecosystem.

There is also projects emerging to unify / merge the different cross-blockchains and token platforms as well as exchanges to mix and add liquidity. They are in the works atm. So very new. More time needed before a solution is picked as valuable.

Regarding the transition of traditionnal instruments to this support, imho your vision is absolutely right. Many attemps will be made in this respect.

A friend who has been around cryptos a while told me to look into EtherDelta, he prefers it. I'm just getting into it so don't know. https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@jephline/etherdelta-project-what-is-etherdelta the exchange: https://etherdelta.com/#EOS-ETH

I don't know if this exchange fits your needs for token data but they offer a wide variety of tokens.
Just something else to look at.
Several other new exchanges are coming entering the field. I will post any info I run across.

EtherDelta is one of the best so called DEX aka decentralized exchanges and is one of the projects of BitShares (the coin). They had in mind LMAX as a model to achieve performance effectiveness though it is not achieved at this stage (not needed either).

Our plan is to make Sierra Chart a decentralized exchange. Essentially one of the Exchange nodes on the network.

And it will run on a much more efficient protocol rather than an inefficient block chain protocol. At this time we do not want to go into details.

So the ultimate objective is to empower the users, and to bypass the exchanges, and all of that nonsense.

The LMAX order matching engine is a centralized exchange model. Not sure how that would be used in a distributed manner.

Our vision for decentralized trading would involve crypto currencies, but also true value backed currencies as well which do not have to go through all kinds of computational intensive cryptographic algorithms to prove their value. The objective here is high-performance.

Hi Engineering,
Is there any update on other exchanges mentioned (Binance, Bittex)?
The crypto offerings that you have are excellent, these would be fantastic additions.
Thanks.

No. We are not going to be supporting any other exchanges.

We are developing our own exchange functionality.

A real pitty.
And i truly hope you can find some time to reconsider this.

My rant ....
every 1-2 weeks i look around at the support board in the hope to see a binance connection.
Found that a company made one for Ninja, so probably moving to ninja again.
Now sierra support Bitfinex, but they play against their own customers. (we got a glimpse of this last Saturday when there was a hiccup.)
Bitmex is fine.
What i really like to see is Binance.
And if you want to make your own Decentralized Exchange, start an ICO, get 50 Mil in funding and spit it out.
rant over.

We would never do anything unethical like this. A decentralized exchange costs virtually nothing to do.

The public is being taken as complete fools with these ICO's. We could not even imagine putting any money into them ourselves.

I think adding Binance API would bring in a lot more customers. I for one would sign up again to Sierra Charts. I have used bitmex before but that is only good for trading bitcoin/usd. Binance has over 100 pairs and is the largest exchange in the world. I really hope you guys reconsider adding an API for binance.

I hope sierra chart will add Binance too. I switched from Sierra chart to NinjaTrader 8
only because there is an add-on for Binance. But would rather be using Sierra chart.

Yeah but the addon isn't even supported by NT and all alts that go down to the 8th decimal look crappy because they only support up to 7th decimal. We need Sierra Chart to get in on this, cryptos are the future. We need Binance support, this would bring in a lot of interest to Sierra Charts as the go-to right now for Binance trading is all done through tradingview and that platform only has lagging indicators. Sierra Charts could plug into a huge market if they start making API's for the largest crypto exchanges.

We can certainly do Binance data but trading is more involved. We also have others plans in regards to crypto currency trading that we are working on. So our development time must be focused on this last item.

Sierra Chart Engineering,

"We can certainly do Binance data but trading is more involved."

All I need is the data. Binance has a PC Client I use to place trades, works great. But the PC Client charts suck. So I watch NT charts but when I want to place a trade I use the Binance PC Client software. I have the same type of set up when trading Futures. Sierra Charts to frame out the market but I want to place a trade I use TransAct AT DOM to place trades.

I think the data only charts would satisfy most of us that use Binance exchange. Please do it, thanks

Any further decisions about supporting a Binance data feed? Nevermind the trading part of Binance. We just need a Binance data feed; it's the biggest exchange market in crypto.

Yes, this is under development now. Being handled by one of our non-core developers. So it does not take away any time from our main development.
