Link Sierra To Two Separate Subaccounts At IB

Hello, I had written previously about how to set up two connections to Interactive Brokers by having two installations of Sierra on two separate computers. I had wanted to be able to trade long in one installation and short in the other installation of the same symbol and have both show as open in each Sierra copy even though in reality since they both went to the same IB account they cancelled each other out and I actually had zero contracts. I set that up as instructed after writing to you, and everything worked very well.

However, now what I think would work better for what I’m trying to do is if I could trade in two separate IB accounts one for long and one for short.

I’m going to contract IB and ask them about their master account structure which lets you trade subaccounts under a master account. And I noticed that when I checked your Data/Trade Service Settings that the account number was not required, only the user name and password to IB.

So if they tell me that I can only have one account number for the master and subaccounts but I can have separate user names and passwords for each subaccount, will I be able to link up one copy of Sierra to one subaccount and another copy of Sierra to the other subaccount, even if they have the same master account number? That way the long and short trade will not cancel the other out and they will both remain open.

I’m assuming I would still have to pay the $20 per month fee for the second connection like I did before. Would there be any other charges to link Sierra to two subaccounts under one master account at IB?

Thanks for your help…

After I posted the above question I found the section in your user guide called: Using Financial Advisor Accounts. So it looks like this will most likely be possible.

It doesn't mention any additional fees, such as duplicate fees for data, etc. so I'm not sure if even the $20 extra connection fee is required.

I did some more reading on a trader site where someone from IB had answered a question regarding their advisory master/subaccount trading structure. I don’t think that will work for what I was thinking because if I understood it correctly, the trader in the master account just allocates a percentage of the trades to all the subaccounts.

I may need to just open a second account at IB whether it’s linked or not really wouldn’t matter then I can put an instance of TWS on one computer for one IB account and a second instance of TWS on another computer for the other IB account and reading your user guide I think I just need to change the port number to something else like 7494 on the other TWS instance and Sierra instance and it should work.

If that is about right, could you tell me what additional costs there would be compared to what I’m paying now.

Thanks…

You just need to have Interactive Brokers set up another subaccount and then you can access it as explained here:
Basic Trading and the Trade Window: Main/C >> Trade Account (Selecting Trade Account for Chart / Trade DOM)

You do not need another username.

If you will be using another copy of Sierra Chart, you do need to pay extra for the second real-time data connection when using the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed.

Having read the docs, do I understand correctly that ALL studies in one instance are processed sequentially by 1 core? (or cores left after data, etc updates are offloaded to separate threads)
I need to process some 50+ sub-systems and then decide on position sizing/ switching on/off some systems on a meta\portfolio level before sending orders to the market.
How would you recommend efficiently going about it?
Launching 10-20 instances + one instance for meta-analysis?

Yes this is correct.

If you need to distribute the processing load you will need to use multiple Sierra Chart instances but we are not sure how you would handle the communication between them.
