Dear Sierra Support,

this behavior of charts tools is quite common but definitively a bug and not a feature: paralell lines become non paralells when zooming or when just dragging the chart to the left.
The behavior exist for pitchfork paralells, paralell lines and now even for linear regression.

I know this bug does exist due to different reasons when changing timeframes but - as the attached charts show - in this case the timeframe was the same.

If you need any additional info (screenshots, header or whatever) let me know.
Attached a few screenshots.

Regards,
Jano

We do see how this is potentially a problem with Linear Regression Lines because a former programmer who worked on those, made a stupid mistake in the way that they are doing the line extensions and coordinate calculations. We thought that they had corrected this as instructed but we can see they did not. And we are not happy about that.

The calculations need to be done completely and strictly on the bar index and floating-point Y coordinates and then finally converted into the integer window coordinates at the final step. The calculations are being done with the window coordinates. And this is what leads to the problem.

We will resolve this today.

However, still to some extent this kind of issue can occur anyway and is explained here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails34.html

You need to make sure there is a greater amount of space between the beginning and ending points of the drawings.

We will look over the pitchfork and parallel lines tools as well.

You also need to realize the problem could also be at the operating system level as well with the particular operating system you are using. You are not running Windows.

So to expect a complete solution from our side is a mistake.

Update to prerelease 1614 and see how much of a difference there is with the Linear Regression drawings.

The calculations have been completely reworked to do them as accurately as possible.

Whatever problem remains, is going to be solved by using a high resolution monitor and having a greater distance between the beginning and ending points.

We are also going to look at the pitchfork drawing tool. A quick look at the parallel lines drawing tool, shows that there probably is not anything further we can do with that. But we need to review that some more.

Dear Sierra Support,

have checked 1614 on the same chart as yesterday and that particular bug just by dragging the chart to the left has gone.

Thank you for your fast resolution.

Jano
