I want to trade XBTUSD on the BitMex exchange. so I created an account with bitmex and linked it to my sierrachart username. thus I was able to get a bunch of available symbols from BitMex. but I couldn't find XBTUSD from the list. the closest I got was a symbol called XBT-BMI. its price movement does resemble that of XBTUSD, but it still differs quite a bit from XBTUSD. for example, right now XBTUSD is trading at 1802.1, while XBT-BMI is trading at 1793.4. and when I applied a volume study to XBT-BMI, it showed an equal volume of 6000 across the whole 5-minute timeframe chart.

so basically please shed some light on,

1. how to find the XBTUSD symbol
2. how to get accurate volume for XBT-BMI
3. how to setup correct price display format and tick size for bitcoin symbols

We want you to update Sierra Chart to the current version following these instructions:
Software Download: Fast Update

That is necessary to access the correct symbols and data.

After that, follow through the instructions beginning at step 8 here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/BitMEX_Trading.php#SetupInstructions

Be sure to perform a Full Reset of the symbol settings following the instructions linked to.

1. how to find the XBTUSD symbol
2. how to get accurate volume for XBT-BMI
3. how to setup correct price display format and tick size for bitcoin symbols
Doing all of the above should resolve all of this for you. If not, let us know and we will look into it.

thank you for the instructions.

I followed every steps, but still couldn't get the exact symbol I was looking for.

the closest one I found was XBTUSD-BMEXT,

it resembled the general XBTUSD price movement on Bitmex, but not exact. there are still price discrepencies, and on sierrachart, there are a lot of gaps on the chart, while on Bitmex, the price movement is seamless.

I also tried to find the corresponding futures symbol for XBTM17 on Bitmex. the closet I found was the XBTM17-BMEXT, but it had the same problems.

This is vague. It is not enough for us to do anything with. Just give us one detailed example of the difference that you are referring to. Only one example and no more than one example. We do not need any more than one example. We will then contact BitMEX about this and see what they can do.

This is what we see for that symbol with 5 minutes per chart bar:

The time zone is UTC. Is that what you are seeing?

We do not see any obvious problems. The market data from BitMEX is also provided using a standardized protocol which is the DTC Protocol. So if there is a problem it is much more likely to be something they would need to resolve from their side.

Actually, we just realized one thing that you probably need to do. Go to the chart for that symbol and select Edit >>Delete All Data and Download. You may be looking at testnet data.

Also look at post #4 and #5 above.

Just to be completely safe, update to the latest prerelease, with Help >> Download Prerelease just in case there is a problem with the version you are running accessing testnet data. This was a problem with some earlier releases.

And we assume you are not using the BitMEX (Testnet) service in Sierra Chart?

I was indeed using the testnet feed, since I was demo trading the bitcoins, didn't know its datafeed is different from the actual bitmex feed.

I've now switched to the actual bitmex feed. and got everything working as they should.

thank you very much for the support!
