Feature: Keyboard Actions for Drawn Tools

Is it possible to add a feature to enable keyboard controls for various drawn tools? At the moment when a drawn shape is selected, if I use up/down or left/write keys on the keyboard, they do default actions for the chart. It would be nice to control the drawn tools with the keyboard. For example, when I draw a Volume By Price study by hand assume it covers a certain number of bars in the middle of the chart. Then I can select the drawn Volume By Price study to highlight it. It would then be nice to be able to extend the Volume By Price by one bar to the right each time I press the right arrow key. At the moment I have to carefully find the right corner (top or bottom) of the profile and extend with the mouse. If I am on a 15-minute chart and want to see how the profile shape changed as each next bar formed by adding one bar at a time to the profile, it becomes fairly cumbersome to use the mouse. I usually give up doing that when I study the charts because it is pretty inconvenient.

Ideally, this feature request is to add default keyboard actions for many of the drawing tools when they are selected. When no drawn tool is selected, the keyboard actions can act on the chart as they do now in the current version.

There is no urgency on this request although I can use it when it becomes available. It is just a convenience and usability feature.

Thanks.

We can put this down, but it is not likely this will even be looked at until two years from now.

And the way that it would work is that you would still have to start the Chart Drawing Adjust operation with the Pointer to indicate whether you will be adjusting the beginning or ending point of the drawing.

We definitely think you are not following the most proper and efficient procedure to adjust the Volume Profile and you are struggling to know where one of the edges is.

This is not difficult and actually it is easy. We have prepared the documentation here for how to do this:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/VolumeByPrice.php#ModifyingManuallyDrawnVolumeProfile

Let us know if this solves the problem and you do not need the keyboard shortcuts.

I believe I have the settings your document mentions. Once I select the outline of the profile to modify it, I left-click, hold the button down, and drag the mouse. The profile doesn't recalculate while I drag the mouse. It only recalculates once I let go of the left mouse button. At that point, the rectangle is set and the recalculation happens. In order to include the next bar in the rectangle each time, I have to repeat the above mouse actions.

For an example of what I was shooting for with this request, please see (25 seconds of this video): https://youtu.be/EqEwWzxxEW8?t=713

The key is to be able to see the development of a profile visually without using the market replay feature which might take a little longer and take my focus away.

Thanks for considering the request for a future implementation. I am not even going to call this the ability to use the keyboard shortcuts for the drawn tools. Ideally, this should be baked into the product ground up. In other words, the keyboard shortcuts should make sense and they should be uniform/intuitive across many of the drawn tools rather than being configurable by the users. Having said that, I am happy to get the functionality in whatever form that is optimal for SC though.

Thanks.

What we can do is have the Volume Profile update as you are adjusting it.

We will try to get that done this evening rather than a year or two later. If it creates a performance impact problem, then we will have to make an option for it.

Good thing we have a resolution to this.
