Hello,

I've been trading for 34 years, but never actually backtested anything. I would love to try to write rules for a simple system that uses daily and intraday price bars. No moving averages or stochastics, just simple price bars. I've read all the information on your site, but I'm afraid it didn't help at all. I have no idea how to go about this or even if it's possible. Any help would be so appreciated :)

Thank you,

Stuart

to write rules for a simple system that uses daily and intraday price bars

Ok, so I want to start with something super simple like:

On a daily chart, buy to go long if market trades above previous day's high. Sell to go short if it trades under previous day's low. Assuming that's possible, I would add other features such as a trailing stop. For example, if long and sell stop is more than 40 cents away, exit position at the end of the day. Or, change stop to 10 cents lower on the opening the following day. I have a lot of other rules, but I want to just start by getting something down and going from there. Is this sort of thing relatively easy, medium or difficult so far?

Thank you!!

Ok, so I've been studying all morning and it's very fascinating. I have a vague impression of what's possible now. Unfortunately I still don't know how to actually create a system such as the one I described and back test it. Please help me :)

Thank you,

I've looked at all of that and I still don't see where I can learn how to program it to do what I want. I only see the example with the moving average. Nothing that would help me program it to do something with daily bars or intraday bars...

The Daily and Intraday bar data is in columns B through E on the Sheet the chart data is outputted to. It is just a matter of using cell references to reference that data. Refer to:

for the record: I've stopped to follow you because of the collission:
1.
I've been trading for 34 years, but never actually backtested anything.
2.
I've looked at all of that and I still don't see where I can learn how to program it to do what I want.
3.
The Daily and Intraday bar data is in columns B through E on the Sheet the chart data is outputted to. It is just a matter of using cell references to reference that data.
It's very strange to see it all together with no any result.
So it looks like you need some paid help from someone, imho.

Good luck.
