FYI, I know you don't like for people to respond with thank you notes because it clogs up your system, but I just wanted to say thank you SO SO much for adding this custom symbol capability! Once I finally get it working it will definitely add a whole new dimension to SC allowing users to plot unlimited symbol models while also allowing the ability to use all of the various chart types available, other than just line and bar spread/difference studies. Thanks again!

So just to be clear, in your example I would input for example {ESZ18-BAAVG}-{ESV18-BAAVG}?
In general yes but the problem is that there is no ESV18 symbol.

And in your other post those are not even valid symbols. We see you are using Interactive Brokers so you need to use Interactive Brokers formatted symbols.

Sorry, I don't trade ES but was just using that as an example, I'm not familiar with its contract months. So I entered the IB format and it works without adding BAAVG. But when I add BAAVG I get an error message (see screenshot), obviously because IB doesn't recognize the BAAVG suffix. Any way to fix this?

This Works: {CL-201901-NYMEX}-{CL-201902-NYMEX}

This Doesn't: {CL-201901-NYMEX-BAAVG}-{CL-201902-NYMEX-BAAVG}

We need to see why using that suffix is causing this issue.

Ok thank you. Hoping it can be fixed. I also had a question about how to group formulas together with parenthesis. For example, ({CL-201901-NYMEX}-{CL-201902-NYMEX})-({HO-201903-NYMEX}-{HO-201904-NYMEX})if I would like to subtract two intermarket spreads from each other such as CL and HO. Is there a way to group certain calculations together?

Thanks again.

Fyi, as a heads up, you might want to also check that the calculations are working correctly. In the attached screenshot, it seems as though the calculations are not being summed up correctly. Both a 2 legged spread and a 4 legged spread are returning the same values tick for tick which shouldn't happen. Thanks.

We did verify that the recording suffixes do work properly:

Supporting real-time market data updates for child symbol: CL-201901-NYMEX-BAAVG | 2018-12-26 19:26:15
Interactive Brokers | Starting real-time market data updates for: CL-201901-NYMEX. ID: 1 | 2018-12-26 19:26:15
Interactive Brokers | Subscribing to Symbol: CL, SecurityType: FUT, Expiration: 201901, Exchange: NYMEX, Primary Exchange: , Currency: , Multiplier: , CallPut: , Strike: , LocalSymbol: , TradingClass: | 2018-12-26 19:26:15
Interactive Brokers | Requesting security definition data for: CL-201901-NYMEX. ID: 1 | 2018-12-26 19:26:15
Symbol Error - CL-201901-NYMEX is unknown, unavailable, or improperly formatted. No security definition has been found for the request | 2018-12-26 19:26:15

But just wait for the next release before testing again. But there should not be a problem in version 1853.

Yes this does make sense. This is a valid formula.

you might want to also check that the calculations are working correctly.
This is the result of a significant oversight. This is now resolved and we will have a new release out in a couple of days.

Yeah!!!! :-) Can't wait to try it out. Thanks I'm curious if you have an idea of when the custom symbol option will be able to also pull in historical data? I'm asking so I will know whether or not I need to subscribe to a VPN that can run SC 24/7 for historical data.

Historical data support for custom symbols is actually quite complex. This is an important feature for us to add in Sierra Chart but it really is involved. So it is not going to be that soon.

Please forgive me, I am not a programmer but I have a layman's idea/question in regards to how the historical data works.

1. When a user adds the suffix -BAAVG to the end of a symbol, I assume SC recalculates the chart and creates a new chart based on on that suffix. The software performs a calculation on the historical data to create what basically amounts to a new BAAVG symbol (adds the bid and ask and divides by 2).

Since SC has the ability to calculate a new chart in this way. Would it be possible to somehow simply extend this functionality so that it can handle custom symbols instead of completely overhauling how the historical data works with custom symbols?

Once again, my apologies if this is an ignorant question. Just brainstorming...

Hi guys, just following up on post #33 to see if there are any plans to work on updating the Custom Symbols feature to include historical data in the near future? Thanks
