Hi,

My Sierra charts has stopped receiving live data. This happened this morning as well. The status box in the top left is showing Green and the DF: count is incrementing. I realised there was a problem when I noticed the sierra chart Depth of Market lines are not drawn and the last bars on my chart are from over 3 hours ago. (18:06 and 17:46 - it's 21:10 here now)

I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting but it's not worked. That is what fixed it this morning. I've tried connecting to the TWS gateway instead of TWS Trader workstation and it's not made a difference. The TWS gateway shows all green and 1 API client connected. I don't see errors in the IB log. I see it sending account and position data. It looks like SC is failing to connect to SCData on ds1.sierracharts.com on 8.18.161.135 and ds6.sierracharts.com on 8.18.161.131. Is there a problem with the servers?

I'm only running tests to an IB demo account at the moment so this is not a disaster for me.

I've just tried closing Sierra Charts and restarting and it's still not connecting. My charts from IB TWS and my other brokerage are working fine.

There are no problems with the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed servers.

We suspect the problem is that you are not connecting to your Interactive Brokers Live account which is necessary to receive the real-time CME data.


We will need to see the Message Log. Provide it by following these instructions:

Hi,

I have sent the log file.

I neglected to mention in my earlier message that I connected to my live account this morning. You can see it in the log. Prior to this I connected to it around mid oct I think. (I cant recall)

Reading the log, I am not sure why it is looking for GBPUSD data at one point. I have 2 charts on screen. One is GC-201612-NYMEX and the other is ES-201612-GLOBEX.

ok I've spent quite a lot of time on this and I'm not able to see any sign that my firewall or anything on my side is causing the problem. It's possible that I've missed something but I have some strange findings that I'd like to get your opinion on.

Forex works. I am able to get live prices and historical backfill on symbols like "EURGBP" and "EUR.GBP-CASH-IDEALPRO". No problems.

I cant get live prices or historical data on Futures (any exchange) or stocks like AAPL or AMZN etc as well.

Is forex different somehow? Different servers or something? I know I get "EUR.GBP-CASH-IDEALPRO" from IB and I think "EURGBP" comes from Sierra SCData.

I've checked my windows firewall and my router firewall. I've even disabled my windows firewall and it still didn't work. I've uninstalled things like Google Drive, Boxcryptor, My VPN. I can't think what to try next. There's nothing obvious in the Windows Event Viewer. The firewall has a rule for Private Networks for SierraChart.exe. My home connection is Private. It's set to allow all ports etc.

Everything was working until about 18:00 last night (Central European time - Copenhagen) Then it stopped. I was just browsing the web. It was 20:30 that I realised there was a problem. The Green connection status icon is still green even though I'm not getting live prices. I'm going to add code to my trading study software to make the background flash red if the Bid/ask/last price stop updating. I think it's wrong to show a green status when there are failures to get chart data or live prices.

It worked spontaneously late last night and then stopped working again. I still have no idea why this might be. My chart for "ES-201612-GLOBEX" has data up until Tuesday 00:15 (CET) This is the Tokyo session I think. I'm not sure if this is relevant.

Here's a log showing

1. Failing with "DAX-201612-DTB-EUR-25"
2. Succeeding with "USD.JPY-CASH-IDEALPRO"
3. Failing with "GC-201612-NYMEX" (completely blank chart)
4. Succeeding with "USDJPY"
5. Reporting failures on USDJPY despite showing an up to date chart and live prices.
6. Succeeding with "NZDUSD"
7. Succeeding with "NZD.USD-CASH-IDEALPRO" - this took a long time. The chart was set to load 200 days of intraday data but IB only send about 20 I think.

I only have 1 chart window.

The last 2 are probably most interesting because all the others have been tried repeatedly in the last 18 hours except NZD

I should also say that the blank chart with GC-201612-NYMEX is repeatable and when I look in my Data folder I see a set of GC-files with varying timestamps. Some until 03:11 which is when I was working on this until. When I choose Edit->Delete All Data And Download it does not remove the GC*.scid files in my data folder.

Clearly there is some connectivity problem between Sierra Chart and the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed servers. Usually it is caused by a firewall. Try a different Internet service provider if you can. Or a different computer.

Also, there is no need to provide all of the details that you did. We only need to see the Message Log and this is all.

I'm actually a little confused by your message because I presumed that something had been rebooted at SC. Today everything started working without me doing anything. About an hour or 2 after I wrote that message.

I have live prices for stocks, futures, forex and the historical backfill is working as well.
