Hi - I've searched the boards and can't find and answer. I use the ZigZag indicator and want it to alert me when a rotation has gone to a certain point, where it's likely to reverse out. I used this for the alert, but it doesn't work. For instance, whenever $ES has a zigzag leg of 3pts or greater, I want an alert. I tried =SG2>3 , where SG is the text label. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

im not sure what you are trying to have your alert read

but if it is an indicator and the ID is equal to 1 this would be correct:

=ID1.SG2>3

That didn't work - my ID:1 is a moving average. The zigzag indicator prints out numbers at the top and bottom of every rotation on a chart. I just want an alert when a rotation goes over a certain amount, like 3pts on the ES, a likely place for a retracement. It's not accessing any other study. I tried I tried =SG2>3 , where SG is the text label, thinking when the text label would hit a certain level, again, such as 3pt on the ES, it would fire off an alert. Thanks again for any help you can offer.

the problem is the text label isnt outputting anything, just printing values..

i will try to fool around with a spreadsheet and see if i can get it to work after the close

I think you're right - it is only the value, so that's probably why. I'm still new to SC, so your help is very appreciated. Thanks.

with the zig zag study you need to have "Display length of Zig Zag line" checked to "yes"

settings are attached in the image

here is the formula:

=OR((ID1.SG4>3),(ID1.SG4<-3))
this is assuming "Zig Zag" is ID1.. you can change as necessary and also assuming "ZigZag line length" is SG4 you can also change that as necessary

Here is a spreadsheet study that will draw lines at the potential zigzag reversal level, and sound an alert when the current price crosses that line:
