Dear Support,

Please see the attached PDF: "2015 10 30 Trades.pdf"
This was generated by SierraChart this morning after trading EURUSD in Sim.

With apologies in advance, I may have the following possible error all wrong.

The Issue: Although I traded USDJPY last night with good Trade Statistics results, the Trade Statistics for EURUSD does not seem to calculate the pips and the resulting P/L correctly as explained next.

USDJPY is unique from many if not most other Forex pairs in that one pip is calculated using the 100's decimal place. In contrast, EURUSD and many if not most other pairs one pip is calculated using the 10,000's decimal place. For example, one pip in USDJPY I believe is 0.0100 in the price quote and therefore 0.1000 would be ten pips etc.. For EURUSD one pip is calculated, I believe, as 0.00010 and ten pips would be 0.00100 etc..

In viewing the attached Trades page, you'll see in the first row at the top of the page that I traded in Sim a quantity of "250" in which I assumed $100,000 would be traded using "$1,000" for a full single lot. "500" would then be 1/2 lot and 250 would be 1/4 lot.

A full lot, "1,000" in EURUSD is normally worth $10 per pip and therefore 1/4 lot or "250" should be worth $2.50 per pip.

As the Trades page shows on the top line, I entered short at 1.10065 and exited at 1.10170 with a quantity of "250". By my calculations that's a loss of 10.5 pips (1.10065 - 1.10170 = -0.00105). That should be a $26.25 loss. (10.5 pips loss * $10 per pip * .25 [1/4 lot]) But the Trades page shows a loss of $0.26. Either I or Sierra's calculation seems to be off by two decimal places.

P or L = (# of Pips) * ($10 per Pip EURUSD) * (# of whole Forex Lots or fraction thereof)

Could you please let me know if it's me or Sierra's two decimal error? My guess is that Sierra is calculating EURUSD using the same decimal assumption as if it were USDJPY and that they need to move the decimal in P/L pips their formula over two decimals to the right. But again, I could need to move mine instead :-) Please advise...

Thank you for the help Sierra Support,

William Awty

PS: Normally I use SierraChart as subscriber by way of Infinity/Transact Futures but they don't offer Forex. I my open a separate trading account at Interactive Brokers and will use SierraChart there also with a separately paid subscription. First I'm getting set up in Sim.

A quantity of 250 means 250 currency units. The Currency Value per Tick for EURUSD is .00005. This is the same as the Tick Size for that symbol.

With the entry and exit prices that you gave, this gives a loss of:
0.2625 USD
