Hi, I see on your website that you will remove the Excel interface in 2016. Do you know when? Will you give notice? I use the Excel interface extensively for calculations. If I switch to Sierra Chart spreadsheets, will it be possible to read a data cell (single Boolean) in a Sierra Chart spreadsheet from an Excel spreadsheet? For me, this is essential. Many thanks.

OK, thank you for the reply. Just to clarify: if you drop the Excel interface, I will not want to read from Excel spreadsheets, I want to read from a Sierra Chart spreadsheet into an Excel spreadsheet. ie. I wish to run an Excel spreadsheet at the same time as the SC spreadsheet and read data (Boolean) from the Sierra Chart spreadsheet into the Excel sheet. I presume you are saying that this would not be possible ??? (My bespoke execution engine works only in Excel, so I cannot transfer everything into Sierra Chart spreadsheets.) For me, it would be a massive blow to drop the Excel interface. What you provide now works for me very well. I am building a complex trading structure around this so the uncertainty is deeply concerning. Do you know when a decision is due? Many thanks. |

Since there is this kind of reliance, we will keep the Excel interface. The primary reason for our comment was to avoid reliance by future users in order to keep the reliance on the Excel interface to a minimum. Would it be possible to write a simple script using VB in the Excel spreadsheet that reads from a file and write the necessary data that you require to a file using an ACSIL study in Sierra Chart? Thank you for the answer. It is a relief to hear that you will keep the Excel interface. What you suggest may be possible. My programming experience is principally VB although I have many years of trading experience. I have been reading your documentation to discover what is possible, but any guidance you can provide would be welcome. Question: I have a bespoke Excel add-in which sends orders to my broker when given triggers from within the spreadsheet. Importing data to the Excel spreadsheet enables me to run automatic strategies. Ultimately, it may be possible to replicate all the functionality within Sierra Chart, thus avoiding Excel. I am pleased to see that you have a function for moving stops to breakeven (+ offset) when a target is reached and I assume it is possible to achieve this via automated spreadsheet trading. For my strategy, I need to have multiple trades in the same direction up to a limit (which I see is possible), but, beneath the limit, once it has done one trade I need it to prevent the next trade until the breakeven target of the first trade has been reached (and its stop moved to breakeven +/- offset). ie. Each subsequent trade needs to be prevented until the previous one is "safe". Is this possible? |

Yes this is possible but probably is tricky to do with the Spreadsheet Trading study.
