Is windows considered to be running natively at this point...sort of a dual boot or is it surfing the mac os?

I've been using SC on MacBook with Win 7 on Boot Camp for 2 years now. I have never seen a single problem with that config.

Yes....Windows runs natively when used with Boot Camp. Boot Camp allows for dual boot between Mac OS & Windows. But you don't even have to have a Mac OS installed to still run Windows natively. As long as you have an Intel-based Mac you can install just Windows on one partition. You just need to have the "Utilites" CD that is created through Boot Camp within a Mac OS. This allows Windows to function properly with the Mac hardware.

I currently use one of the early Intel-based Macbooks with a dual boot of Windows & Linux Mint. Works great.

Windows is running natively (I think) because it is on a separate Mac partition that is formatted NTFS. At first I tried "PlayonMac / Wine" (because of the vintage of the Mac) running on the Mac OS. That combo was the pits for SC. The Macmini1,1 (early 2006) OS X 10.6.8 is not supported for the Boot Camp install, so the install was a challenge. Now SC is up and running flawlessly. :-)

That's correct!!

The Macmini1,1 (early 2006) OS X 10.6.8 is not supported for the Boot Camp install
That is also correct. Same for me with my Macbook. But Boot Camp was supported early on as a sort of "trial/beta" basis so if you were able to create that "Utilities" CD during that time then you are set for future installs of Windows.

For me:
1)Use Windows install disk to format entire drive (one partition) as NTFS.
2)Install Windows (XP in my case for SC usage....my Macbook does not support Win7)
3)Use "Utilities" CD to sync Windows with Mac hardware.
4)Use Linux Mint DVD to create dual boot system with Linux Mint/Windows

Why Linux? For "sensitive" material because Apple no longer supports OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
