Hello, I think I understand this correctly, but want to verify something so as not to mess up my live trading.

Here is the scenario: 1st instance of Sierra (and I assume that means also it has to be the first one started if I restart my computer)is connected to Interactive Brokers but also is using the Sierra Real Time Exchange data feed. It is running a live automated system.

Now, I start a second instance of Sierra (to do backtesting using the Sierra historical data and/or to do something like using the IB paper acct to test the IB Gateway). Can I safely assume that starting this second instance will in no way effect the first instance (where the system is running)?

Thank you.

Yes. Make sure Global Settings >>Data/Trade Service Settings >> Allow Support for Sierra Chart Data Feeds is disabled in this particular instance.

This is where I'm just a little bit confused. If I disable the Support for Sierra Chart Data Feeds, won't that also disable the Sierra historical?

No. Only if you are connected to Interactive Brokers. From Interactive Brokers documentation:
Enable Allow Support for Sierra Chart Data Feeds to use Sierra Chart Historical Data for major futures contracts and US stock symbols. Sierra Chart Service Package 3 or higher is required for this.
