Cancel failure if done within 30 seconds

Today first time ever I received the following error message while trading Nymex:CL contracts in Live:

Rithmic Trading | Failure with order with Service Order ID: 17557037. Send cancels only after 30 secs. More cancels within this period will lead to logoff/disable of this user. | 2015-07-07 19:25:21 *

I was in contact with my broker (AMP) and they asked me to contact you. The problem comes from your system they say.

So what is this ?

This is odd. This message obviously is originated from the Rithmic so why they are asking us (the traders) to contact you...

What I know the exchange does not have any limitations in this. So do the rithmic need this delay so they can play opposite or what a heck is going on...

I went back to AMP lets see if they can solve this thing.

Hi again,

the AMP support gave me more information about the logic behind this situation:

Our records show that you sent a cancel on an order after a cancel request was already sent to the exchange. If you send a cancel on an order that has already had a cancel request sent you will receive that message. After 10 attempts to send a cancel on a canceled trade Rithmic will lock the account. This prevents an automated system from sending unusually high order amounts.

This error situation happens in SierraChart when I create an order with the target and stoploss orders by right-clicking on the chart.

Then I cancel the order by left-clicking over the main order "cross". The target and stoploss orders will disappear immediately BUT for some reason the main order may still be shown on the chart and then within 30 seconds I will left-click the main order again which will generate the 2nd cancel for this order causing the error situation.

The innternet says the MultiCharts had this same problem and they changed the app so you cannot send new cancels if the preivous is still under the process.

We could do this, but as a safety feature we allow the cancel to go through immediately even if one is already pending, to ensure that an order can be canceled under any conditions even when there has been some communication failure.

When you see an order not disappear from the chart when you have canceled it, then select Trade >> Refresh Trade Data from Service. If the order has actually been canceled but there has been no response to the earlier cancel request, then this will remove the order from being displayed.

It sounds your "safety feature" is the better way to do this.

Because there is a possibility to give that Cancel 10 times until the account is locked I think it would be a good practice to try not more than few times to do the new cancel commands and if it does not work then try that Trade>>Refresh. If the order still exists I think it will be some kind of communication error and the situation should be taken into more careful examination.

Another thing you can do is select File >> Disconnect and File >> Connect to Data Feed to reestablish a connection to the trading server when this kind of condition happens.
