I'm using FXCM data, Intraday Data Storage Time Unit set to 1 tick, but my Forex chart Reversal bars, set to 6 ticks, are not alternating between up/down bars on either my candlestick or Numbers Bars charts. Rather there may be several up bars in a row or several down bars. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

Thinking about this, we see no reason why Reversal bars would alternate between up-and-down bars in regards to the candlestick bodies.

There is nothing in the logic of reversal bars which would cause this to happen.

Ok. Glad to know it's working properly then.

Just FYI, your documentation for the Reversal Bars indicates otherwise:

"The Reversal Bar setting is for creating a Reversal bar chart. A chart of this type has alternating up and down bars."

"The first bar will be either an Up bar or Down bar depending upon the direction of prices at the beginning of the chart. After the first bar, the bars will alternate between Up and Down bars."

I'm a bit confused, as I've just been reading your documentation for Point and Figure charts (study):

"A more efficient alternative to the Point & Figure Chart study is are Reversal Bars which are set through Chart >> Chart Settings."

This also indicates, as does the documentation for the Reversal Bars I quoted previously, that they are indeed supposed to alternate between up and down bars, just as P&F charts do, so there is a considerable contradiction between what you're telling me in this thread and your documentation.

If possible, I hope you will add an actual Reversal Bar option to your Chart Settings/Bar Period that does indeed mimic P&F charts by alternating between up and down bars. Is this something you would consider?

Thank you for your time.

We need some time to review this and update the documentation to more clearly explain how Reversal bars work.

We already had a quick look at this, and there is an alternation, but not with the body of the candlestick which we were referring to in the previous message.

It is different and we will explain how that works.

I have a related question on reversal bars.

I understand from the documentation that they are recommended over the older point and figure study.

I would therefore like to use the reversal bars in this manner but I would like to display them still as X and O.
I've done a search and read the revised documentation for reversal bars but I cannot see a setting to change the graphics settings into X and O for these reversal bars.

I'm probably missing something but would appreciate a pointer as I find point and figure charts very, very useful.

We will add this capability to the next release. You will see this new Graph Draw Type found in Chart >> Chart Settings.
