Question about Alert Box Fields...

So, I assumed that if I wanted an alert to only trigger once per bar that I'd check both the "Enable Alert for Chart Drawing" and "Alert Once Per Bar" boxes.

But that doesn't seem to prevent the alert from triggering multiple times in the same bar despite the fact that I checked that box.

It seems like I have to also check the "Only Trigger Once" box which makes no sense.

Actually, why are there 2 "Once" options?

Please look into this as I think there might be a bug..or tell me what I'm doing wrong.

We have run a test now in replay and the Chart Drawing alert only alerts once per bar.

Well, I have screenshots from today that show that I'm getting multiple alerts firing within the same bar.

How might I send you the screenshots?

We need to have a clear way which we can reproduce the problem.

Replay the chart at the point in time where you have a Chart Drawing which is giving you multiple alerts per bar and confirm it occurs during a replay. Let us know either way.

Did you check this issue with a Daily Chart as the Alert Once Per Bar option means it should only alert once for the entire day...and mine isn't doing that..it's alerting over and over.

I've never used the Replay Chart feature so will need to sit down and figure it out.

Definitely interested in familiarizing myself with that feature anyway.

Just reporting what I'm experiencing yet again today.

I think it might just be an issue on Daily Charts..

Please check into this and I'll do the Replay and let you know my findings.

Thanks so much,

J.

It is possible the Historical Daily chart is reloading which is causing this condition.

Do you know if you are using any studies which reference that Historical Daily chart?

I can't say for certainty as I have a lot going on with my Daily Charts.

I have 3 subcharts on my Daily Chart page and have an alert for each..

And I can confirm that I strongly believe this bug is tied to just the Daily Charts as it happened again.

Looking forward to figuring this out..

J.

We will be releasing version 1214 either today or tomorrow and we will want to know if it solves the problem.

Thanks, although I might wait awhile to make sure this version is proven as I'm still reluctant after I tried a new version awhile back that corrupted my workspaces.

apparently that version release was only public for a few hours but I was affected and as when I re-opened my backup files in that new version I unknowingly corrupted most of them..fortunately I reached out to Support with one backup file left and it saved the day.

Please note that I'd be happy to assist in figuring this out as I have a bunch of active alerts that are set to re-set every new bar..perhaps that has an effect on this issue.

I'll let you know either way.

Thanks again....

J.

You do not have to be concerned with this.

An issue like this is a very rare scenario and there was a recent issue with it after some extensive file I/O work that we had done. But since then there are no changes within the Sierra Chart versions which would cause a problem like this. And in any case, there are 30 days of back up Chartbooks available.

Hi, so this is still appears to be an issue..even with the latest version.

I'll create a Horizontal Trendline with Horizontal Line Tool, set an Alert should the price go above/below it, set it to "Alert Once Per Bar" but it keeps firing Alerts.

Particularly on a Daily Chart.

Please take a look into this or let me know how I might assist as presently I'm dragging the trendline to a different level to prevent the continual alerts..and no doubt that's not desirable for me.

Looking forward to your reply..

Thanks so much,

Jonathan

We do not think there is more practical help we can provide with Chart Drawing Alerts on Daily charts.

Doing some basic testing now, we cannot duplicate the problem when using Alert Once per Bar. So we are not even sure why there would be a problem to begin with. Unless you are closing and reopening the Chartbook.
