Hi, I have a question regarding the interaction between Volume at Price (VAP) grouping and the VAP functions available in Simple Alert Condition formulas, particularly `BVAP()` and `AVAP()`. I use these functions to evaluate Bid/Ask volume at specific price levels in historical and current bars. My charts use different VAP grouping settings depending on the instrument: some use a multiplier of 1 (one tick per price level), while others use a multiplier of 2 (two ticks per price level). For example, consider the following expression: AND(BVAP(H[-1]-TICKSIZE,-1)>0,BVAP(H[-1]-2*TICKSIZE,-1))>0
With a VAP multiplier of 1, this queries the price level one and two ticks below the previous bar's high. My questions are: 1. How are price arguments interpreted? When the supplied price does not correspond exactly to a VAP price level because of the grouping multiplier, does `BVAP()`/`AVAP()` map the argument to the nearest available price level, round it, or return zero? 2. How should grouped price levels be queried? With a VAP multiplier of 2, should I use `2*TICKSIZE` as the price increment when querying adjacent VAP levels? Or is there another recommended way to identify the actual price levels represented by the VAP data? 3. Can the VAP multiplier be accessed directly in a Simple Alert Condition formula? Ideally, I would like to write one formula that adapts automatically to the chart's VAP grouping setting, rather than maintaining separate formulas for multiplier 1 and 2. 4. Does the same logic apply to the current bar? In particular, when using `BVAP()` or `AVAP()` to confirm a breakout at a specific price, how should the queried price be selected to ensure that the intended VAP level is being checked? My objective is to use the VAP functions consistently across instruments with different grouping settings, both for historical price-structure conditions and for current-bar entry triggers. Thanks for any clarification. |
