When Sierra Chart first added support for CQG, this was only for trading and the FIX protocol was used since this was a common protocol that Sierra Chart supports for trading.
Later market data support was added. CQG FIX does not support market data.
CQG recently developed a new web socket protocol for market data and this also supports trading. The web socket protocol was used for market data. This uses what is known as Google protocol buffers.
At the time that the interfacing was done to CQG, we were not aware that there were two separate charges for these two different protocols. From what we understand this is 10 USD for each of these a month. This is a total of 20 a month. We did not know this until later.
We have been asked many times about this by brokers. So we added support for trading through the web socket protocol. This will reduce the CQG cost to customers since the FIX connection will not be needed.
Sierra Chart version 1209 supports trading through the CQG Web socket protocol.
If you still want to use FIX for trading, there is a new service listed in Sierra Chart called CQG FIX Trading. However, this service requires that you use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed for market data as it does not support market data. It is a trading only connection which requires the Sierra Chart data feed.
To get version 1209 update Sierra Chart with Help >> Download Prerelease.
Once you are sure the trading is working properly for you in version 1209 or higher when using CQG, you can contact your broker have them remove the FIX connection from your CQG account so you can save 10 USD a month.
