I know I can separate the bid and ask in a volume profile but is it possible to only show the buying or selling volume in a volume profile?

No because for every share or contract traded there is a buyer and a seller. The only possible thing to discern in a trade, is who was considered the "aggressor" and did the trade at the market. We can add the capability to color only the Bid volume or Ask Volume. We will see about that with the Volume by Price study.

To clarify, the reason for doing this is to be able to compare the bid or ask volume against itself at different price levels. For ex, I'd like to be able to compare the bid volume at price level 2010.5 to the bid volume at price level 2010.25. Depending on what I'm looking for, I wouldn't really care about the ask volume at that time. Later, I might want to compare the ask volume at price level 2012.5 to the ask volume at price level 2012.75. And in that case I wouldn't care about the bid volume. Currently it's easy to compare the bid volumes at different price levels since the bid is always on the inside of the profile. But it's not as easy to compare the ask at different levels. Even though I can color the ask differently, the total length of the row still includes the bid volume. So, the only way to clearly do this would be to show only the bid or ask or be able to flip the bid and ask from left to right. Please let me know if you need clarification and I'll provide images. |
