v. 2889: Recent Bid/Ask Not Showing When NQ Tick Size Is Changed

For a long time, I have compressed my NQ DOM in Sierra Chart by simply changing Symbol > Tick Size from 0.25 to 0.50, then changing the Currency Value Per Tick accordingly.

Under Market Depth, I have:

Combine Increments In Ticks: 1

Apply Combine Increment In Ticks To Other Market Data Columns: Yes

This perfectly compresses everything without gridlines cutting through the middle of recent bid/ask or pull/stack numbers.

But today I upgraded from 2882 to 2899 and my NQ DOM no longer shows recent bid/ask information. This appears to be the case in 2897, as well.

It seems like the only way to compress the DOM now is to set Market Depth Combine Increment In Ticks to 2 (or higher), but this method is visually messy because of the gridlines.

Is there a way to bring back Recent Bid/Ask using the Tick Size method that I was using?

Thanks!

There is not. Due to underlying changes to support the Market Depth combining for all the columns, when you change the Tick Size, the Recent Bid/Ask will not display.

As you state, the solution is to use the "Market Depth Combine Increment in Ticks".

We are not sure what issue you are referring to with regards to the Grid Lines. Please get us an image of what you are seeing by following these instructions:

Thanks John, here are screenshots illustrating what I'm describing.

First, the DOM compressed by changing tick value to .50

Next, the DOM compressed via Chart Settings > Market Depth Combine Increment In Ticks = 2, and Apply Combine Increment In Ticks set to YES:

Perhaps there is a setting that I'm missing to achieve the clean, organized first look using Market Depth Combine Increment?

Thanks!

Here is the proper way to combine price levels for the market data columns:
Global Trade Settings Windows: Combining Price Levels for Market Data Columns in the Chart/Trade DOM

You cannot change the Tick Size but you can change the Scale Increment:

Thanks for the reply. Following those instructions and changing the scale and grid increments to 0.50 does get a better result.

But there are still some grid lines cutting through some of the pull/stack and recent bid/ask levels, as you can see here:

https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1776798611274.png

I can't tell if the horizontal grid lines become off center, or if compressing the DOM in this way has the pull/stack bars and recent bid/ask volume levels still rendering at 1 tick=0.25 increments, and then the 0.50 horizontal grid lines overlap in some places.

Or maybe again there's just a setting I missed?

The single-chart chartbook is attached. Thanks again for taking a look at this.

I ended up just turning off the grid entirely, which mostly hides the alignment issue.

I do have two related questions:

-Using "Auto-Set From Data Feed" for NQ, the Real-Time Price Multiplier becomes 0.009999999776482582. Is this correct?

-Employing the DOM compression method you shared above, I can't get my DOM Volume-By-Price study to compress to two ticks while also using the VBP reset button, which sets the VBP to "From Start Date Time to End." Is there a workaround? (I use this VBP to show delta-by-price, so it would be great it if matched the compression of the DOM).

Thanks again!

This is due to floating point inaccuracies. It is not "wrong", but we will see if there is something we can do to not have it display like that.

The Volume by Price study input for "Ticks per Volume Bar" can only be set to even multiples of the setting for the "Volume at Price Multiplier". Typically, the Volume at Price Multiplier is set to 1, so any value can be set in the Ticks per Volume Bar. But if you have it set to another value, then this would be why you can not change it.

Another possible reason is that if you have the Volume by Price study on a Trading DOM, then the Volume by Price "Ticks per Volume Bar" is forced to a value of 1.

Yes, I was talking about a Volume By Price on a trading DOM, where I had been compressing it by changing the tick size under symbol settings.

Does this mean that moving forward there will no longer be a way to have a Volume By Price on a trading DOM with a compressed tick setting?

Thanks again!

At the moment, this is correct. We will pass this along to Engineering to see if something can be done regarding this.

Thanks John! It would be great to continue using the native SierraChart study rather than looking for third-party replacements.

We know about this. The underlying reason for this is getting resolved but it will take some time. Could be about another two months from now:
-Using "Auto-Set From Data Feed" for NQ, the Real-Time Price Multiplier becomes 0.009999999776482582. Is this correct?

Instead of doing this, use this setting:
Chart Settings: Volume at Price Multiplier for Historical/Intraday Chart (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Chart Data >> Volume at Price menu)
