Hidden study resource usage

I understand that hidden studies need to process since they may be used in another visible study but is there a way to hide a study and have it not consume CPU? I have various studies that I hide and unhide that are not referenced by other studies. It would be nice for them to be totally inactive when hidden. Thanks
