Hi, I now use "detach Window" option for all my charts because my tuned Windows 11 allows me to use borderless window. It allows me to have a cleaner interface, and to economize some space on my laptop screen. I would like to stop using the "detach window" option to take profit of the new feature "MDI window virtual space", but what repels me from doing it, is the unconfigurable huge thickness of each window border. Would it be possible to allow users to configure the window border thickness down to 0px or 1px ? Best regards, Sébastien |

That is a Windows system setting. GROK is your friend. Standard disclaimers apply if you don't know what you are doing... The registry keys for adjusting window border thickness (including the resizable "grab" area) in Microsoft Windows are located under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics. The primary values are: BorderWidth: This controls the base border thickness. It's a REG_SZ value, typically set to a negative number (e.g., -15 for 1 pixel, -30 for 2 pixels, up to -750 for 50 pixels—the negative multiplier is based on -15 per pixel for compatibility with older DPI scaling). Positive values or 0 may result in thicker borders or default behavior. PaddedBorderWidth: This adds extra padding around the border (also REG_SZ, often set to 0 for minimal thickness, or negative like -60 for 4 pixels of padding). To modify: 1) Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe) as administrator. 2) Navigate to the path above. 3) Double-click the value (create it if missing as REG_SZ). 4) Enter the new value (e.g., -15 for thin borders). 5) Log off and back on, or restart Explorer.exe, for changes to take effect. These apply system-wide, including to MDI child windows like in Sierra Chart, but results can vary in Windows 11 due to modern window rendering (e.g., borders may appear visually thin but with adjusted grab areas). Always back up the registry before editing, as incorrect changes can cause issues. On my machine defaults were BorderWidth: -20, PaddedBorderWidth: -60. I changed both to -15. |

Thank you User719512 ! I didn't know it is still a Windows setting after the last SierraChart updates (the pre-release ones). I thought SierraChart was taking care of everything related to child windows from now. Anyway, like you, my setting were -20 for BorderWidth and -60 for PaddedBorderWidth. I changed to -15 for BorderWidth and 0 for PaddedBorderWidth. Borders are now way thinner indeed ! It is less than 1mm thick, it was about 3mm before. Not quiet as good as invisible borders but better than nothing ! |

The changes to the MDI windows are for the windows that are managed by Sierra Chart. This means that windows that are "Detached" are not using these changes and require a change to the Operating System.
