When long 1 contract and I want to reverse to short 2 contracts I click on the box that says 3 in the trading system platform. When I press Reverse I get short 1. Why doesn't it go to short 2? If I put 5 in ther box I still get short 1.

There is a new setting in "Trade >> Chart Trade Settings >> General" that allows you to define how the "Reverse" button will work. The options are the following:
- Full Position: Works as it always has, where a Reversal only reverses to the same quantity that existed in the original position.
- Set Order Quantity: This will reverse the position and set the quantity for the reversed position to be what is set in the Quantity field at the time Reverse is selected.

But, the "Set Order Quantity" only works with a quantity that is the same, or less than, the original position. So you can not go from a position of 1 to a reversed position of 2 (or more).

I don't like this methodology. If I want to reverse to 5 positions from 1 I want it to do that when I put 5 in the Quantity Field. Can that be programmed into Sierra. Seems to me that was how it worked before.

The closest you are going to get (for now at least) to a one button reverse to a different position quantity is if you are Long X and you want to reverse to a position of Short Y, then Sell X+Y. Do not use the Reverse button.

Example:

Step 1. Buy 1.
- Now you are Long 1.

Step 2. You now want to be Short 2, so Sell (1 + 2) = 3.
- Now you are Short 2

Yes that can be done but requires the trader to make a calculation which complicates the process. How simple is it to just make it reverse to whatever you have in the position quantity on the platform. Seems much simpler to me.

Seems like an arbitrary limitation. Can anyone at Sierra explain this?

Agreed. I was surprised when I saw it doesn't do what you would expect it to do.

If I’m running 5 contracts and scale out to 1 taking profits in a long running trade and want to reverse as the market is reversing I should be able to re establish my original 5 contract initial position without having to figure out how many to reverse. Seems like it used to do that. Let’s put it back.

We will change this back to how it was:

We thought it was a good safety feature to prevent reversing to a larger quantity than the current position quantity.

Let me give you one more example. If I have a standard initial entry amount of 5 contracts and scale one off I am now long 4. If I want to reverse to short 5 I have to figure out how to sell 9 contracts. I don't have than many numbers on the trading platform. It has 1 through 6. I now have to sell 6 and then 3 more to get to short 5. If the system was setup so that a 5 in the contracts box on the trading platform reversed the long trade to short 5, like it used to do, it would be easy to reverse into my standard initial position of 5 contracts short.
