What a disaster. A situation in which the local nature of SC is a disadvantage vs some of the competing server based offerings, nothing lost there, was able to immediately be running on IBKR TWS side on another machine, and using Tradingview charts in a pinch. Reminder to back up your data.... 1. What OS and specific version does SC recommend as most stable and reliable for a professional production trading machine? 2. Is an older Windows version viable, considering newer processors/battery management in a mobile workstation, etc? 3. How can all the bloat and telemetry and surveillance processes be permanently disabled? 4. How can forced updates be permanently disabled? 5. How else can major system failure/downtime like this be definitively avoided? |

We would recommend using Windows Server operating systems: 1. What OS and specific version does SC recommend as most stable and reliable for a professional production trading machine? On our systems we mostly use Windows Server 2016. You can get a license for this on eBay for about $35 or so. You will not get any forced updates with Windows Server 2016 if you configure it to just prompt for updates. It is not going to do any updates automatically. You should not have lost anything with Sierra Chart. All of the data and configuration files will be contained in your Sierra Chart installation folder. Does not make sense, that a Windows update would have caused an issue with the storage drive. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
