6. There is no way we can do anything different with this. it is quite difficult and we do not have time for more than a year from now.

You could always install a more high-performance SSD. For example a NVMe SSD. We know that handling this in software and working just with the data in memory would be best. But a NVMe SSD will make a noticeable difference.
