that is not accurate. i am using the latest prerelease, downloaded tonight. the workaround for the 2nd issue (charts flip to Historical mode for no reason) is to select Find in the Symbol box, then SELECT (do not type) the desired symbol from the list. this will allow Intraday mode to be selected. however if the user types in desired symbol into Chart Settings>Symbol box, or the symbol search dialogue box that opens, then the chart will stay locked in Hist mode. perhaps this gives you a better clue on where the problem lies. please remember the first issue is that even though Symbol link is unchecked, background charts get their symbol changed (because they do have Link Symbol checked). still, this is non-intuitive since the user clearly does not want the current chart's symbol to affect the other linked charts (because it is unchecked).
