Post From: Stage5 Message Rate Limit Error (e.g. from using trailing stops)

Apparently the exchange has a message rate limit (e.g. order sends limit) and the broker has a limit to set as well to ensure the exchange limit is not hit. If the exchange limit is exceeded, there are heavy fines. Stage5 currently has a limit set of 30 messages per 10 seconds. Apparently I was able to hit this limit easily even with 1 or 2 contracts that had a trail stop, since trail stops can update on a tick by tick basis (i.e. lots of messages within 10 seconds). It was suggested to use a step trail instead which is feasible. However, is it possible for SC to create a study that can monitor in real-time what the cumulative message count is that we are sending in X seconds, so that we can monitor and ensure that we don't hit the broker limit? I expect to be putting on a lot of contracts in the near future and foresee easily hitting this limit, so I'd like to be able to monitor in real-time and ensure I am staying comfortably below the limit while also ensuring that I am trailing as tight and often as possible.

Obviously hitting this limit is extremely risky (depending on your style of trading and risk) since it means your order is discarded, so we need to make sure that we don't hit it. Of course a future trail stop order update will move the trail at that time, but who knows when that will be and how much the market will have moved by that time.

Also, if you could offer your thoughts on Stage5's limit - is it super low and are there other brokers that you are aware of with a more generous limit?

Thank you,
