My current Windows 10 pc has the extended security support until October, 2026. I'm wondering what my options are for Sierrachart after that, and I'm looking for suggestions. Some basic info: I'd like a solution that's relatively future-proof. Meaning I won't have to do this again for a number of years. Stability and simplicity are key - I'm not an IT guy, not even close. I don't want to upgrade to Windows 11 for all the reasons. I don't want to upgrade the pc if I don't absolutely have to - I don't feel like it's necessary anyway. The machine isn't dedicated only to running sierrachart, but it could be. I use maybe 3 to 5 percent of what SC is capable of, no spreadsheets or millisecond timeframe charts or anything fancy. For reference I've been using my sierrachart layout with this machine with zero problems or lagging of any kind for the last 5 years: It's a Lenovo thinkcentre tiny PC, AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 3400GE, built-in (2 GB) Radeon Vega 11 Graphics 3.3 GHz. 24 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD. I didn't even install SC on a separate drive or anything (because I have no idea how). Very very simple and basic and it's been completely problem-free for the way I trade / use sierrachart. I use two monitors, but the video card will support a 3rd one. I don't have any plans to do this, however. I know nothing about linux or any other operating systems. I've had good luck with a local computer repair place, so I'm not going to attempt any of this myself. So do I just keep the machine and take my chances with unsupported windows 10 after 10/2026? Should I have some other version of windows installed on the machine, like Windows Server 2016 or something? When does support for that end anyway? Is there some simple off-the-shelf alternative to windows that will support sierrachart, AND work trouble-free? Thanks in advance for all the suggestions. |
