Looks like it was something similar to what you mentioned. I am using VMWare Fusion to run Sierra Chart on my Mac. My Desktop shortcut was using the non-ARM version, which wasn't working. When I used the ARM version of Sierra Chart, it worked. I didn't make any manual changes on my end, but I guess it wants me to use the ARM version now.
