We cannot say for sure, but this sounds like, a connectivity related issue at the time:
I tried hitting flat again and the cancel button again with no luck. I then tried hitting the "X" on the chart with no luck also.

The connection was lost but not yet recognized as being lost. A restart should not have been necessary.

It sounds like again you had a connectivity problem:
EDIT: It just happened again when I hit flat and the platform froze? I think the clock wasn't ticking in the chart. The flat button didn't take me out but the stop loss did work. Please help if possible.

When you notice this condition select File >> Reconnect to force the reconnect immediately.
