We want to comment on the brief outage of NASDAQ TotalView today, date 2025-07-14. Our communication link to NY4, experienced a brief interruption triggering the problem. This was about a 40 seconds interruption. We reestablished the connection over the NY4 link. We could have also have failed over to the CH2 data center but did not. The problem with this NASDAQ TotalView data feed is that when there is a lost connection and we reestablish the connection during the day, NASDAQ retransmits, all of the order by order data since 4 AM in the morning. This can take several minutes. In the past, this data was retransmitted out to users and created all kinds of issues and duplicate data. This was always leaving a mess behind that we had to clean up. We made a change, in approximately the last 30 days to smart manage the reestablishment of the NASDAQ TotalView connection during the day and filter out this duplicate data. We came up with a very good logic to do this. There was a problem, with this management of the reconnection to the NASDAQ TotalView data feed causing some symbols, but not all, not to update, for a period of time until we corrected the problem. We believe we have the problem resolved as of this evening with the above issue and it should not occur going forward. We are still using the NASDAQ TotalView TCP version of the data feed and not the multicast UDP data feed. We avoid packet loss by using the TCP version of the data feed. We have tried the Multicast UDP version a few times, but inevitably we do lose some packets. We want to provide 100% accurate data. We had planned to use the multicast UDP version but after additional testing decided it was not the best choice. The multicast UDP version of the data feed, does not retransmit data since the beginning of the day when we reestablish a connection to it. However, it is not the best choice due to packet loss issues. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
