We are not seeing any issue with this. We just setup a configuration with a different color for the Value Area and it is working correctly. Do you have the "Bid Volume and Ask Volume Coloring Method" set to something other than "None"? If so, then the Bid/Ask coloring is going to override the Value Area coloring.
