The documentation is for the "Difference (Bar)" study, which does allow the use of the Add Additional Symbol. The "Difference (Line)" study does not. We will update the documentation to make this clear. We do not know why you would have the incorrect values, as this is working correctly for us, even with the multipliers of -1 for each chart, as you have it.
