We have no idea what "Whited out or hollow looking" means, but the fact that the system thinks that a .cht can be opened by Adobe Acrobat Reader is all about the Operating System. In doing a quick Internet search for how to remove a single file association, it turns out that there is not a good answer. So just do not worry about it. It will not make any difference that Windows thinks that a .cht can be opened with Adobe Acrobat.
