In my experience it largely depends on the mode, how you have it set up, and the speed of your computer. In standard replay mode it should skip over dead periods. In accurate backtest mode, on an older computer, with the processing step set to 1 second, and many charts loaded, many days loaded, large spreadsheets, etc. it could take a really long time. I recently upgraded from Core2 Duo to I5 and the difference in replay is dramatic. However, if you have an I series processor, then it should not be taking very long unless you are using large spreadsheets, which can bring any processor to its knees.
